Here’s some Facebook marketing for you, Jay Z premieres the new video for “Holy Grail” on Facebook today featuring Justin Timberlake and directed by Anthony Mandler.
With all the talk about Justin Bieber spitting on his fans and the Miley Cyrus circus, Jay-Z quietly became the first artist to use social media to effectively release a new music video. Why is this important? Because since it’s release earlier today it has over 20,000 Likes and over 18,000 shares, even if I lowball the averages this video probably has over one million plays already. That’s pretty phenomenal and to a degree even more powerful than launching the same content on Youtube.
Is this the beginning of a trend or just a one off event? Facebook is a powerhouse of world connectivity and it makes sense for not only an artist to debut music there, but any business to advertise there. I imagine we’ll see a lot more of this in the near future.
